Fans are furious with American Idol over edited performance of 'Alejandro'

"Would you take a $250,000 painting, cut it in pieces, and put it together to better fit your wall?" So says the petitioners who are peeved that "American Idol" had the nerve to slice two minutes off of Lady GaGa's televised performance this week.

Apparently the high-rated show had better things to do with its limited time than to broadcast all six-and-a-half minutes (seen in the video above) of the pop diva's recital, choosing instead to get to the business at hand of kicking a young singer off the show (adios, Aaron Kelly). Meanwhile, some speculated that perhaps the Fox powerhouse edited bits of "Bad Romance" because the dancing was a tad too hot for prime time. Regardless, GaGa tweeted her disapproval and was obviously so upset that it affected her spelling. "FOX POORLY + AMATEURLY edited+cut my performance/musical arrangement on idol", GaGa typed.

Naturally, the comments on both the Idol Tracker blog and Ministry of Gossip showed the wide spectrum of reaction one might expect from such a pressing issue. Read some of them after the jump....

carrie wrote: Idol should have either kept the performance intact or informed GaGa ahead of time that she had to keep her performance to 5 minutes or whatever. Idol is horrible at keeping time and Gaga cares about how she presents herself. I have no doubt that she would have cut the performance time if she had been given warning. There's really no excuse for Idol's complete inability to run on schedule.

jen countered: Lady GaGa performance on wed was the lowest rated idol results show since 2002.
So obviously she didn't do much for ratings and nobody cared.

becca didn't think it was all that either: That's art? hahahahah. Thats like calling the "dogs playing at the pokertable" art. Seriously, its garbage. Thank goodness Harry Connick Jr came to save the day.

Crystal thought the government should be alerted: We record American Idol every week and this is the first time since Idol began that we ever DELETED a taping. It was the worst, most inappropriate and dark performance for this type of audience that I've ever seen. Every week we see young kids sitting in the audience and this is what they were exposed to??? If this is what Idol expects to continue to have as entertainment on their show, they should expect a lot less ratings! It was AWFUL and talk about wardrobe malfunction -- The FCC should jump on this one too!!! Maybe a few concerned parents should give them a call or send them an email.

Silvia agreed with Crystal: The piece should not have been shown during prime time TV while young impressionalbe kids were watching TV.

schristensen is outraged at GaGa, but for her complaint, not her performance: Could you be anymore full of yourself, your singing songs for cry out loud, not curing cancer.

So what do you think? If Idol has someone of Lady GaGa's magnitude on their show, should it treat her like Picasso or does it have the right to trim down her act to fit their allotted time slot? Or is this much to do about nada? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
